my story

I
grew up in West Chicago, IL and began playing the guitar in junior high.  I was first inspired by my brother, Steve, who had just received an electric guitar for Christmas.
He showed me some chords and (as they say) the rest is history.

I continued to refine my Rock-and-Roll, but Mom and Dad weren’t fond of anything over 120 decibels.  So, in 2000, my parents bought three tickets to a Christopher Parkening concert at Wheaton College.  This changed everything.

We quickly signed up for guitar lessons at our local community college (College of DuPage) and my teacher, Scott Johnston, introduced me to the classical style.  After some progress, Scott asked "Have you ever thought about transferring to Pepperdine University?"  Before I knew it, I was in Malibu ready to begin my studies with
Christopher Parkening.

After graduating from Pepperdine in 2006, I continued my education at the University of Southern California where I completed the M.M. and D.M.A. degrees under the instruction of Scott Tennant.  While working on my doctorate, I also served on the faculty at Pepperdine working alongside Christopher Parkening.

I now serve on the faculty at Indiana University South Bend and live in Chicago
where I teach, compose and perform.
